Long Island is embracing a new era as major offshore wind projects, including South Fork Wind and Empire Wind, reshape the local landscape with clean energy and fresh economic growth.
The completion of South Fork Wind in March 2024 stands out as a bold step forward. Positioned 35 miles off Montauk, this 132-megawatt installation now powers roughly 70,000 homes while helping cut carbon emissions dramatically.
Meanwhile, Empire Wind, led by Equinor, is making headway with its first phase—adding 54 turbines and bringing 810 megawatts of capacity online by 2026. The project is a catalyst for local manufacturing, construction, and green jobs, boosting both energy security and the regional economy.
These investments mark a turning point, strengthening Long Island’s clean energy leadership while supporting sustainable growth and economic opportunity.
